The Bicentennial Exhibition: Art in the Service of Faith
This exhibition follows the creation, decoration, and consecration of four landmark church buildings—two at Broadway and Houston Street, and two at Fifth Avenue and 53rd Street—each celebrated in its era as a milestone of Gothic Revival architecture in the United States.
Through rare documents, historic photographs, and beautifully curated display cases, visitors experience the parish’s journey from downtown to midtown Manhattan. Architecture, décor, music, liturgy, and service come to life alongside striking silver liturgical objects and richly embroidered vestments gifted over generations.
A dedicated music vitrine showcases the parish's world-renowned program, featuring highlights such as the premiere of Requiem by Andrew Lloyd Webber and a landmark performance by Jessye Norman with the choir of men and boys.
The exhibition culminates in a forward-looking installation inspired by the rector's vision—revealing how, through technology and global webcasts, the mission of Saint Thomas Church now reaches worshippers around the world.
