This beautiful Discovery Center in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve in Arizona is a collaboration between Thinc and architect Swaback Partners, Arizona State University, Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community and other education partners.
Located in the popular and stunning McDowell Sonoran Preserve, this Center tells the local story of the Preserve and the dedicated local community and provides an inspirational model for conservation and learning.
Desert EDGE offers a fluid experience through multiple pavilions and outdoor areas so that people are in constant close proximity to the desert. Inspired by the features of the surrounding landscape, each pavilion frames a unique view. Inside and out, sensory and fun interactive experiences reveal the incredible and often hidden diversity and complex natural systems at work in each view and as part of the Sonoran Desert ecosystem. One pavilion focuses on the local urban environment of Phoenix and its relationship with the desert, providing a globally relevant perspective on the challenges facing arid lands and desert cities.
Desert EDGE is one of Thinc’s groundbreaking current projects, representing our vision for experiences that open us to the innate bond between people and their natural surroundings and inspire custodianship of our planet.
