Play with the nature of physics

The Universe of Science engages visitors in the exploration of different phenomena -- light, mechanics, gravity, magnetism, buoyancy, and sound-through their own capacity for play and observation. Each exhibit element offers open-ended variables that invite repeated interaction. The interpretation, on panels and in on-demand video, encourages a range of observational outcomes. A fourth grader and a physicist may use different language to describe their observations, but both begin with what they see. Contrasting perspectives encourage visitors to make meaning out of what they observe and to value the meaning they make.

Interactive videos produced by Xenon show kids and scientists giving compelling and often surprisingly complementary answers to questions visitors might have about the exhibits. They are intended to stimulate visitors' own interest and observation.
